Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where you think, “I know I have some good stuff here, but I just don’t know what to do with it.” That was the situation my recent client found himself in when he asked for my help.

One of the things Baltimore houses occasionally have are many rooms spread over many floors, particularly in older homes. You may go up a flight of stairs and there’s one room, then you go up a few more stairs and there’s another room, until eventually you get to the point where it feels like every room has its own personal small staircase leading up to it. That type of house is how my client ended up with a library, an addition I am in fact quite jealous of.

When we started the project, there were a lot of great pieces that we wanted to highlight on the shelves, the work came when deciding how to place and move pieces to create the greatest impact. After a first pass with some of his existing items, we made a list of all the items to be obtained before round two, and then it was back at it – looking at the new pieces and seeing how to move things around with the existing ones.

We ended in a place that I think makes the most of the amazing finds he has and also keeps the space a functional office/living space for him as well. Click through the gallery below and mouse over the images to see the comments.
